BASW England Children and Families Seminar: Working with Deaf Families
Join the BASW England Children and Families Thematic Group for these lunchtime sessions in conversation with specialists across the sector. The BASW Children and Families Thematic Group address issues that arise, concerning social work with children and families, within England. Group members hold expertise across social work policy, practice, research, and education. In these lunchtime seminars group members will be in conversation with specialists from across the sector. BASW members are warmly invited to join in the conversations. An introduction to Deaf people, Deaf culture and some considerations for social workers working with Deaf children and Deaf parents. Janet Ayoola is a qualified social worker, and host of The Social Work Pivot, a podcast for social workers who want to make a career transition, get promoted or move into independent practice.
Janet has been involved with the Deaf community and Deaf families for over 20 years, from when she first started to learn British Sign Language.
Janet is employed part-time as a Child Protection Conference Chair. Outside of statutory social work, Janet works independently as a Safeguarding Trainer and Consultant with charities and faith-based organisations. When she isn't working, Janet enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
