HM Prison and Probation Service | A contemporary perspective on Secure Schools the Youth Custody Service: BASW England Criminal Justice Group Event
Mirelle Lloyd-Taylor (Secure Schools Relationship Manager) has extensive experience of 20 plus years in the Criminal Justice System spanning operational and strategic positions in both community and custodial youth and adult justice settings. Mirelle has held statutory supervisory roles as a Probation and YOT officer and regional manager, working directly with children and families from diversion to custodial resettlement.
In Mirelle’s current role as Head of Secure School’s, she has delivered against a manifesto commitment to deliver the first Secure School. She has distilled complex delivery plans whilst modelling professional curiosity to align the delivery model with innovative aims away from the YCS governance ‘norm.’
Lynne Abrams (Deputy Director Service Transformation and Project Delivery joined the Civil Service as a Deputy Director in the Home Office, leading the Serious Violence Priority Projects Unit to set up Violence Reduction Units (VRUs) across England & Wales, and create the Youth Endowment Fund, overseeing a total budget of c£376m. From there Lynne moved to leading the Interpersonal Abuse Unit, where she was involved in the national Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy, supported the Domestic Abuse Act through parliament, and led Operation Soteria which aims to transform the policing response to rape and sexual abuse. Before joining the civil service, Lynne set up the London Violence Reduction Unit in 2018 and worked in various roles at the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, where she led on the Gangs Strategy for London, the creation of the UK's first Child House, the London-wide Gang Exit Service, and co-commissioned gang reduction services in Feltham and ISIS.
In this presentation and group discussion, Mirelle and Lynne will provide insights into the current realities of Secure Schools and the Youth Custody Service.
