A response to a Scottish Government consultation on transitions

BASW is calling on the next UK Government to support the social work sector to ensure continuity of care and support.

Earlier this year, Rebekah Pierre (Social worker and BASW PO) requested her care-files, and was shocked by what they contained. The below open letter is penned as a call to action, and to raise awareness about the importance of kind, caring and accurate case records, as part of National Care Leavers Week 2022.

Our focus in this response, on behalf of our members, is on the implications for the social work profession, social workers, and on the potential impact on the children and families served by the profession.

BASW proactively engaged a range of media outlets, to ensure our profession is represented in national discussions about the future of children’s social care in England.

A full analytical look at the Review, its recommendations, and how it impacts all areas of social work will be forthcoming soon.

The 'scoping review' document is more necessary than ever to help guide busy social workers to instigate both individual and societal change.

BASW England has been strongly encouraging members to share their views - and we've also put together our own submission, which you can read here.

BASW England’s members have consistently stated that children's rights must be at the heart of the Review of Children's Social Care.

Government must ensure this move is at least the start of meeting the scale and urgency of the crisis facing social care across the UK.
