The Social Work with Disabled Children Sub-Group is a new group made up of BASW England members with a special interest in this area of social work.
This is a sub-group of the BASW England Children and Families Thematic Group which both reports to and supports that group by considering areas of practice, policy and professional development that are specific to social work practice with disabled children & young people and their families.
The group is keen to attract some new members with front line social work experience of supporting disabled children, particular from Social Workers working in generic children’s teams

Current priority areas include:
- Responding to the Law Commissions consultation of social care law for disabled children

- Safeguarding disabled children, including considering current or recent practice reviews, such as those at:
- Responding to consultations on restrictive practices with disabled children
- Issues of disproportionality that particularly impact on disabled children
- Social work with Autistic and neurodivergent children
- Working with other organisations active in this area of practice
