Join BASW in demanding the UK Government scraps the NAAB
BASW is urging the UK Government to use its Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill to abolish the National Age Assessment Board and use of scientific methods of age assessment.
We’ve been campaigning vigorously on this issue at Westminster and our efforts are being recognised by both the Liberal Democrats and SNP, who agree with us that these unworkable and inhumane aspects of the previous government’s Nationality and Borders Act must be repealed immediately.
The Liberal Democrats have now tabled an amendment in parliament that will do exactly that. We just need MPs across the House to make sure it passes.
Will you write to your MP and ask them to vote for the amendment?
If we secure enough support from MPs, we can remove responsibility for age assessments from the Home Office and put it back into local authority control, where there is no risk of political interference. While also ensuring that the assessment process is undertaken holistically, ethically and objectively by a trained and experienced social worker, not a machine.
We’ve developed a template letter/email you can copy and adapt for sending to your MP (under resource item). You can find their contact details here. If you require any further support or information, please contact our Political & Public Affairs Lead on jonny.adamson@basw.co.uk
Thank you for helping BASW to make our asylum and immigration system fairer and more compassionate.
