There's a lot going on in BASW England, and as a new member it can be difficult to know where to start. For 2025, we're introducing a programme of events aimed at new members to help you get to know the different ways you can get involved and make the most of your BASW membership. Although these events are aimed at new members, you can join whether you've been a member for 5, 10 or even 50 years! It's never too late to get involved with BASW England.

Workshop 1: The rewards and pitfalls of job applications

Need support with your social work job applications or interviews? Join us for some tips and support.
This online forum is for new BASW members, who are either newly qualified or have qualified with in the last 5 years and are seeking support to apply for their first registered social work role, or are looking to move to a new role, perhaps in an field of social work that is new to them.
The session will cover key tips in finding roles, the application and interview process. There will be time to explore your specific queries, and we will also provide information about the BASW 1:1 mentoring service which is free to all England members.

Workshop 2 – How to make the most of supervision
16th September 1-2pm
This online forum is aimed at new BASW members, who are either newly qualified or have qualified with in the last 5 years and want to make supervision work for them.
If you are not sure what supervision is for or if it simply feels like a chore that has to be done, in this session we will explore:
- What supervision is really for (linking it to the PCF and BASW’s Ethical Framework
- Explore how to be reflective in supervision
- Explore how best to prepare for supervision
- Consider some supervisory frameworks and tools
- Prepare you to take control of your own supervision (without your manager knowing)
After this session we hope that you will
- Start to look forward to supervision,
- Understand how you can make supervision work for you
- Have strategies that will help you use your supervision to develop your practice confidence
