As a new academic term begins, the British Association of Social Workers Northern Ireland (BASW NI) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Affiliate Membership offer in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).
The first of its kind in Northern Ireland, the Affiliate Membership enables QUB students and staff to enjoy the benefits of BASW membership at a ten percent discount on the usual price.
Speaking about the affiliate membership offer, Carolyn Ewart, BASW NI National Director said: “Strengthening links with universities, educators and researchers across Northern Ireland is a key priority for BASW NI, enhancing the Association’s ability to support the social work sector.
“By providing all the tools and resources they need in one place, a BASW membership will help students get ahead on their course and in their chosen career pathway.
“For social work academics, a BASW membership will support their sense of professional identity, and crucially, provide opportunities to influence practice, policy and legislation via the Association’s campaign activities.”
QUB faculty members and students can apply for their discounted membership via the BASW website, quoting the promotional code ‘QUB23’ during the registration process. Membership for students at the discounted rate is £4.65 per month and for academics it’s £22.05 per month.
Commenting on the launch of affiliate membership scheme, Professor Daniel Muijs, Head of School, School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work said: “It was this time last year that our students were working with BASW NI to plan and deliver the first ever joint BASW NI and Queen’s University Belfast student conference.
“Twelve months on and the strength of our partnership has further increased—marked by the development of the BASW NI and QUB affiliate membership scheme.
“Ensuring QUB social work students benefit from the guidance of a professional association, our graduates are supported as they benign their employment, and academic staff are affirmed in their social work identity is incredibly important to me. I’m glad the new affiliate membership scheme will play a key role in meeting these aims.”
Ms Ewart concluded by saying: “September always feels like an opportunity for new beginnings. As the staff and student body at QUB begin their new term, the BASW NI team looks forward to welcoming them into membership and supporting them at each stage of their career.”
