Alcohol and other drugs - Covid-19
As we approach an apparent second wave of the pandemic, the implications is of further pressures on the individuals, families and communities we support, let alone ourselves.
For some this will mean turning to a greater use of alcohol or other drugs.
The Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) Special Interest Group (SIG) consists of practitioners, managers and academics who come together to share information, promote and develop knowledge, produce resources and consider policy.
The group have developed a range of practice guidance resources and links to useful resources to support you as members, in this area of work. You can access all the information on the BASW website.
Please feel free to contact the group for queries or support in regard to this area of practice, by emailing the SIG chair Wulf Livingston w.livingston@glyndwr.ac.uk
Useful resources during Covid:
- Wulf has produced a specific Alcohol and Covid guide for social care staff available here https://socialcare.wales/service-improvement/alcohol-and-covid-19-messages-for-social-workers
- Our previous chair Sarah Galvani has with her colleague Sarah Fox produced a specific exploration of the implications for Alcohol, Domestic Abuse and Covid https://alcoholchange.org.uk/publication/alcohol-and-domestic-abuse-in-the-context-of-covid-19-restrictions
