BASW comments on prorogation of parliament in September
We would like to express serious concerns on the news that parliament will be suspended (prorogued) for an unprecedently long period of five weeks.
Proroguing parliament will undermine constitutional processes and in particular will give MPs less time for essential debate on Brexit.
Parliament should be given the time that is needed for democratic, fair and transparent consideration of Brexit options in the lead up to October 31st.
The move to suspend parliament undermines our democracy and the rights of all citizens to have their interests represented in the House of Commons by MPs.
