BASW supports call for delay to LPS

Further request to Government for update on Code of Practice

BASW supports the letter from ADASS, ADCS and the LGA requesting to delay the implementation of LPS beyond October 2020, considering the delayed publication of the Code of Practice.

It is extremely important that the changes to the system are implemented properly, thoroughly and with due regard to the workforce.

BASW wishes to welcome Helen Whately MP to her new ministerial role at the Department for Health and Social Care and looks forward to working with her on issues of common concern.

We are also keen to remind the Government that thousands of people are currently waiting for a resolution, many in unsuitable settings, others being held in breach of their human rights.

BASW and the BASW Mental Capacity Working Group further request an update from the Government on when the code of practice is likely to be published and the accompanying revised timeline for implementation.
