On behalf of BASW, festive best wishes to you, to all our members and to social workers across the UK! 

We are sending special thoughts particularly to social workers and other colleagues who are working over the holiday period. Your dedication is essential to so many people during this time.

Midwinter is a time when green shoots are firmly hidden, and the difficulties and struggles people face can be laid bare. We see the struggles most starkly in the numbers of roofless people on our streets. We are raising money for homelessness charities and campaigns through our online Christmas Card, and we will be continuing our End Homelessness campaign with our partners throughout 2020.

Inequalities of wealth and wellbeing are particularly stark in the commerce of Christmas. What is less visible is the effort and love of social workers behind the scenes. In our communities, hospitals and homes, in hidden places, social workers are there, alongside people offering help and hope.

Stay safe, and may the knowledge that social workers make society better every day bring you joy this winter. 

The world is brighter because of you!
