March PSW teaser - Victory for NIASW in agency pay scandal
A recruitment agency that paid qualified social workers little more than a new McDonalds recruit has been removed from a list of government-approved care staff providers in Northern Ireland. The move was welcomed by the Northern Ireland Association of Social Workers (NIASW), which has campaigned on the poor pay rates at First Choice Selection (FCS).
However, NIASW raised fresh concern that while pay would increase for some social workers under a newly-introduced government framework for pay, it would reduce for others.
