Repeal of Named Person Provision
The Scottish Government has announced that the Named Persons and Child's Plan proposals will no longer go ahead as planned. Parts 4 and 5 of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, which were awaiting passage of the Children and Young People (Information Sharing) Bill before coming into force, will be repealed. Named Persons caused significant debate amongst the SASW membership, with some members extremely supportive of the provision, and others opposed. SASW represented members at the Social Services Strategic Forum in September, alongside the Minister for Children and Young People and the Chief Social Work Adviser, where concerns were raised around the potential impact news of the repeal could have on practice. Whilst Parts 4 and 5 of the Act may have been repealed, current information sharing practice will continue, as normal, within existing law. Read John Swinney's statement to parliament, here.
