Social Workers Union (SWU) to support NCB and #GiveUsAChancellor campaign
On 14 December, SWU General Secretary, John McGowan will be supporting National Children’s Bureau (NCB) in a virtual event of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Children.
Children, young people and parents who participated in the #GiveUsAChancellor campaign will be presenting to Parliamentarians on the areas where they want to see increased government spending and investment.
NCB and other organisations will also be debating the implications of the recent Spending Review for children and young people.
A recently released report by the NCB states that while the Treasury has made much-needed spending commitments in some areas, there have been major omissions in others:
- No commitments to counteract rising child poverty.
- No support to make babies and young children a priority.
- Not enough to protect young people’s mental health.
- No solution to the sustained crisis in children’s social care.
