BASW NI political briefings
Core to our work is representing the interests of social workers—and those of the people who use social work services—to Northern Ireland Executive Ministers and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly. These briefing documents have been prepared for members of the Stormont Health Committee and Communities Committee.
The briefing for Health Committee members focuses on the case for introducing safe staffing legislation, the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care, the crisis facing Approved Social Workers and the need to increase the bursary paid to social work students under the Social Work Student Incentive Scheme. The Communities Committee briefing highlights the impacts of poverty on social work service users, and calls for the introduction of an ani-poverty strategy and the removal of the Universal Credit two-child limit.
