BASW and RiPfA launch projects to develop practice in adult social care
The British Association of Social Work (BASW), Research in Practice for Adults (RiPfA) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) are delighted to announce further investment in two projects to develop professional capabilities and continuous professional development (CPD) for social work with older people and adults with learning disabilities.
BASW has been awarded the contract for these two projects by DHSC and are pleased to be delivering these in conjunction with RiPfA. The projects will run from October 2018 to April 2019.
In 2017, BASW England developed the Capabilities Statement and a CPD pathway for social work with older people. The newly commissioned work will evaluate the use of this framework and aims to embed this further within social work CPD and practice.
The second project will create a new Capabilities Statement and CPD pathway for social work with adults who have learning disabilities.
Both projects will be underpinned by co-production between social workers and those who use services, ensuring that they are designed with a focus on best practice that is grounded in human rights and promotion of citizenship.
“These exciting projects aim to improve social work practice for individuals, social workers and organisations across adult social care,” says BASW chief executive, Dr Ruth Allen.
“As populations live longer, in growing numbers and with greater cultural diversity, our professional development must keep pace with a rapidly changing society. This new investment will help us all deliver the very best social work practice we can,” says Chief Social Worker for Adults in England, Lyn Romeo.
