BASW backs petition opposing NHS privatisation move
BASW is backing an urgent campaign to prevent the Westminster government from using a regulation in the new Health and Social Care Bill that will force GPs to privatise more and more services.
In supporting the 38 Degrees campaign BASW is asking members to sign a petition blocking the use of Statutory Instrument 257 under Section 75 of the Health & Social Care Act 2012, which would place a requirement on doctors to open up local health services to private companies. 38 Degrees says the move would "speed up the break up of the NHS". BASW members and other social workers are encouraged to find out more about the campaign and why signing the petition is so urgent - the regulation can only be blocked through action in the coming days.
