BASW chief urges Cameron to act as inquiry highlights plight of asylum seeking children
Commenting on the report on the inquiry into Asylum Support for Children and Young People, Bridget Robb, acting chief executive of the British Association of Social Workers, said:
“This shocking truth, that some children and young people who come into contact with the asylum system are living in destitution in the UK, is simply not acceptable.
“We endorse the report findings and call upon David Cameron to take urgent action to ensure that no child or young person is living in destitution as a result of their immigration status.
“All children in the UK have a right to be safeguarded and have their welfare promoted; this is sacrosanct to their human rights.”
