BASW Congratulates Janet Foulds on Honorary Degree
Janet will receive her Honorary Degree in recognition of her many exceptional contributions to child protection and the social work profession, both in frontline practice and social work education.
Janet has been involved in social work in Derby for almost 50 years and was instrumental in setting up Derby City Council’s Child Sexual Abuse Unit. Janet also has a long list of accomplishments spanning from her involvement in BASW, from invaluable contributions to campaigns and projects such as social work in the role of disasters to supporting colleagues across social work and advocating for the profession through her roles as a former Chair of BASW and as a local branch chair for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire branch.
Commenting, BASW England said:
"The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) England congratulates Janet Foulds on receiving this much deserved Honorary Masters from the University of Derby, in recognition of her significant contribution to the profession throughout her 49 year career in social work, her support for students, social work education and the University.
"Janet has a long and rich relationship with BASW that stretches back decades, formerly as Chair of BASW and more recently in her role as Chair for the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire branch. Her commitment to social work and to BASW has been outstanding; an active member advocating for and speaking out for social work and social workers, involved in many events, initiatives, campaigns and projects with the association. The most recent as a contributor to the publication Out of the Shadows: the role of social work in disasters.
"Janet is a highly valued member and a key contributor to BASW’s work, we are all proud of her achievements and her unfailing dedication to the profession .”
Professor Kathryn Mitchell CBE DL, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby, said:
“Celebrating the successes of our graduates is one of the highlights of the year for us at the University. It is also a great privilege to honour individuals who have contributed so much to our University, city and region, whether that is supporting vulnerable women and children, contributing to the transition to low carbon, or promoting and communicating the vital importance of science.”
The University’s winter awards ceremonies take place at Derby Arena on 15 and 16 November 2023. More information can be found here.
