BASW gains Core Participant Status in Covid-19 Inquiry
The UK-wide Covid-19 Inquiry was established to learn the lessons of the pandemic. Scotland is also undertaking its own, separate inquiry.
The Inquiry is taking place over a number of years and is divided into modules. BASW has gained ‘core participant’ status for Module 6, which focuses on Adult Social Care.
Core participation status allows BASW to suggest questions, make opening and closing statements, and recommendations to the inquiry with a focus on social work specific issues.
It thus gives BASW the opportunity to shape how future pandemics are handled and the role of social work within that. The public hearings for Module 6, which will examine the submitted evidence, are expected to begin in May 2025.
Over the next few months BASW will think carefully with members about how evidence is gathered and how this is best presented to the Inquiry - with the ultimate goal being to ensure the voice of both social work and social workers is heard in this vital UK wide forum.
