BASW response to the death of MP Jo Cox

BASW would like to share its sincere condolences with the family and friends of Labour MP Jo Cox.

Ms Cox, a dedicated campaigner for social justice and peace died today following a constituency meeting representing the people of Batley and Spen that she was elected to serve.

As social workers we are part of a community committed to respect for the inherent worth and dignity of all people. The right to freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, which we all aspire to promote and uphold.

Let these principles unite us together with dignity and resolution to preserve democracy.

Our thoughts are with Jo’s husband Brendan and their two young children at this difficult time.
