BASW Supports National Carers Week
BASW is proud to support National Carers Week 2023 - an opportunity to champion the voices of unpaid carers and highlight the huge contribution that they make to the lives of the people they care for and society more widely.
This year’s theme is “Recognising and supporting carers in the community”.
More than 6 million people across the UK are carers. They provide invaluable unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has an illness or disability - or who needs extra help as they get older.
While caring can be incredibly rewarding, it can also have an impact on all aspects of life. The cost-of-living crisis is causing significant stress and hardship for many carers, on top of the additional financial challenges most will already face.
Call to Action- Write to your MP
This Carers Week, BASW is joining organisations across the UK in calling for greater UK Government support for unpaid carers.
Could you add your voice to the campaign?
Please forward any response you receive from your MP to policy@carersuk.org so that they can follow up with them, if you are happy to do so.
Carers and the Care Act: A Research project
This is a call for anyone in England who has been or is involved in caring for someone and has had a carers assessment.
BASW member, Vita Snowden is a researcher at the University of Derby and would like to speak to anyone who has experience of being a carer about participating in a project about how carers support each other.
If you have the research conversation with Vita you will receive a £50 Amazon voucher in recognition of the time given to supporting the project which is hard to do when caring.
If you would like to find out more about the research project, please email v.snowden@derby.ac.uk or leave a message on 01332-622262.
