BASW UK organises anti-poverty campaign event in Parliament
This event is part of our campaign to raise awareness about how social work practice is impacted by poverty, and to ask the UK Government to make policy interventions to alleviate poverty levels in the UK.
The policy interventions we are asking the Government to take are: scrap the two child cap, freeze evictions, and extend the debt breathing space.
Our event will be attended by the Shadow Minister for Children and Families Helen Hayes MP and will be hosted by Alex Cunningham MP who is the former Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Social Work. We will also hear from BASW’s Chief Executive Dr Ruth Allen, and Chair Julia Ross.
MPs and Peers will be able to attend the event to hear from BASW about the link between social work intervention and poverty, to collect a briefing pack on how different areas of social work practice are impacted by poverty, and build a relationship with BASW so that we can better lobby politicians on behalf of our members.
While the event is for MPs and Peers, we have a small number of places reserved for BASW members. If you can attend the Houses of Parliament at 6pm on Monday 27th March 2023, please contact Kerri.Prince@basw.co.uk before 4pm on 8th March 2023. If we get more than 10 members interested in attending, we will do a draw to decide the 10 and place everyone else on a waiting list.
