Call out for memories of Downham, Lewisham…
BASW is collaborating on the development of a film about social work and social workers involved in the development of Community Mental Health Services, particularly the Northover Centre, on the Downham estate in Lewisham from the late 1970s/early 1980s onwards.
This was quite a groundbreaking service, offering walk-in support in a new way, and was influential on services that followed.
We are interested in the early development and what followed - how community mental health resources like the Northover Centre developed, how they were embedded in the community, and how they helped to shape the local mental health support services of today.
If you or anyone you know has experience of any mental health services or community groups in Downham, or you, a relative, friend or neighbour have memories of using, working or volunteering in a community mental health service or centre in the area, we would really like to hear from you!
