Gathering to celebrate the life of former SASW leader Dennis Gower
All at BASW were greatly saddened to hear the news that Dennis Gower had passed away earlier this year. He walked the talk of community based social work, long after he retired from BASW he took his skills into the gardening world. He worked with others developing local resources through leaderful communities.
Dennis supported members and colleagues through major tragedies such as Lockerbie, Piper Alpha, The Orkney Inquiry and much more. Many still remember his dry wit and sense of humour through those dark days. He helped us develop coping strategies and supported us through managing the trauma. Dennis helped us work with the press to provide a balanced narrative.
There is a gathering to celebrate the life of Dennis Gower on Monday 17 June, 1830-2000 in central Edinburgh. If you would like to remember Dennis with his BASW friends and colleagues, please RSVP to Ruth Stark at rstarksocialworker@gmail.com.
