The Jewish New Year is upon us
Julia Ross, BASW chair, shares reflections on the Jewish New Year
Rosh Ha Shann started on this last Sunday night, with asking for forgiveness and looking forward with hope to the New Year.
Food is always a big thing in most faith celebrations and for this, sweet things are top of the list.
Jewish tables will have been laden with Tzimmes which are a lovely concoction of sweet potatoes, apples, and carrots, gently stewed with honey for a couple of hours.
Eight days later, on Tuesday October 4th, Yom Kippur takes place . This is the day of Atonement when we all have to atone for our sins and ask for forgiveness from those we have sinned against. This time, no sweet things, instead fasting for 24 hours takes place.
