The King's Birthday Honours - How to nominate a social worker
Birthday Honours 2025 application process is open
To recognise the dedication of Scotland’s social workers, we would like you to nominate a colleague or individual for Birthday Honours 2025.
Your contribution is important in showcasing the achievements of the people of Scotland, and we can highlight the life-changing impact of social work in our communities. We want to hear about your social work colleague who:
- champions on behalf of people
- believes in, empowers and supports people to live the life they choose
- works across your local community to keep people safe
We want everyone to be well represented, so, please provide nominations for people from all ethnic backgrounds and genders. We want to recognise everyone who has a positive impact in their workplace or community.
Nominations are particularly sought for - but not limited to - colleagues who:
- provide high quality, responsive social care built around need
- deliver meaningful change in improving their community
- support families to contribute to society and help children achieve their potential
- work consistently for equality and integration
- give their expertise to help support public sector, cultural and charitable institutions
We want everyone to be well represented, so, please provide nominations for people from all ethnic backgrounds and genders.
Next steps to nominate your colleague
- You’ll need to write a detailed description explaining why you’re nominating them. Read the guidance on how to write a nomination. If your nominee is living with poor health or is about to retire (a 12-month post-retirement time bar is applied to work-related nominations), please highlight at the start of your application.
- You'll need two or more letters of support to endorse your nominee’s contribution. These should come from people who know your nominee and the work they do.
- Email your nomination (including letters of support) to: Scottish Government Protocol & Honours Team by Friday 18 October 2024.

If you miss the 18 October 2024 deadline, your application can be considered for the next round of honours, i.e. King’s New Year Honours 2025. Nominations are accepted at any time during the year: New Years Honours are published at New Year and King’s Birthday Honours are published in June.
