Tuesday was World Social Work Day, which we marked by launching our Manifesto for Social Work ahead of the Scottish Parliamentary Elections 2021. You can read the document, and sign our pledge to show your support, here. The more signatures, the more pressure we can put on a future government to fulfil our Asks. Following our meeting with Jeremy Balfour, MSP, last week, are are delighted that our Ask around Self-Directed Support will now be included within the Scottish Conservative Party Manifesto, and that he has agreed to sponsor our CPG on social work if re-selected.

We had a very positive meeting with Alison Johnstone, Co-Leader of the Scottishs, where we discussed the very clear parallels between our Manifestos. 

Alison has a discussion with the SSSC about the impact that the length of time fitness to practice cases can take has on social workers.  They agreed to immediately focus on two outstanding cases we brought to them and committed to working with SASW in the future about improving processes. 

BASW UK has recruited three part-time Equality, Diversity and Inclusion leads for 12 months. The project kicked off with a meeting across the four UK nations to begin to work out the needs of the nations in terms what is common and what is nuanced in each.   

Sarah facilitated our Community of Practice for children and families, which explored the impact of domestic abuse on families during lockdown, and presented on the Safe & Together™ Model at the launch of BASW England's domestic abuse guide.

Karin held a workplace input at a Local Authority on World Social Work day and joined the University of West of Scoland for their celebrations. 

The planning group around the NQSW conference in May - which SASW is a part of - met, and the event is looking to become a very interesting and relevant programme for students and NQSWs.
