Shadow Minister for Mental Health Luciana Berger speaking at BASW Merseyside
Shadow Minister for Mental Health Luciana Berger has agreed to speak at a BASW Merseyside branch meeting on 31st March. Ms. Berger has been the Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree since 2010. She was appointed Shadow Minister for Public Health in 2013, before becoming the first ever Shadow Minister for Mental Health in September 2015. Ms Berger is speaking alongside mental health activist Patricia Stoll, who will be offering a service user's perspective of mental health services.
Social worker Anna McLaughlin from BASW Merseyside explains the event: “Mental Health services impact on so many areas of social work practice and that’s why it was chosen as the subject of our first meeting. BASW members tell us that their service users who have mental health issues, whether children or adults, struggle to get the services they need due to cuts and changes to services.
“We are pleased to welcome Luciana Berger to our meeting both as a local MP and Shadow Minister. We are also looking forward to hearing the experiences of a service user and how we can reflect on this in our improving and developing own practice.”
BASW Merseyside wants social workers across the region to come together to discuss social work and mental health and mental health services. Mental health is an important issue across all social work services, so whether you work in adults or children’s services, this special event is for you.
Come and meet your fellow social workers from across Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and South Lancashire and find out how you can become more involved in the UK’s largest professional association for social work.
This is a free event.
