SWU joins Future Social Care Coalition Group

SWU’s status as a member of the FSCA enables the collective voice of its members to be heard at a key moment, and possibly a pivotal time in the history of social care.

The Social Workers Union (SWU) has become a member of the Future Social Care Coalition Group.

The Future Social Care Coalition is a cross-party and cross-sector group that includes senior politicians, employer groups and civil society organisations.

The coalition - whose members include Citizens UK, Mencap, UNISON, Better Pay for Social Care, the Living Wage Foundation, and many more - is advocating for more support, better working conditions and an overall 'fair deal' for under-valued social care workers.

SWU’s status as a member of The Future Social Care Coalition (FSCA) enables the collective voice of its members to be heard at a key moment, and possibly a pivotal time in the history of social care.

Social Workers work across all areas of Health and Social Care - in all four nations - and as such, SWU is committed to workforce and working conditions issues.

SWU represents, advocates and campaigns for key issues such as anti-poverty, anti-austerity, disability equality, as well as Black Lives Matter. 

The Social Care Workforce has Social Workers embedded within it - and key conduits to advocating and articulating the Social Policy and legislative impacts that impact the citizens we work with and strive to empower.

SWU chair Carys Phillips, who recently attended the recent FSCA Annual Conference, said: "Attending the Coalition’s ‘Summer Summit’ as a member shows how SWU has a significant role in standing in solidarity and articulating social policy. 

"SWU was able to highlight the lived reality of health inequalities, the cost-shunting by the Continuing Healthcare practices and add to the call for a social care plan that is fit for the future, at a time when the Government is due to (finally) respond to the need for a social care plan in the Autumn."
