BASW Northern Ireland Committee Vacancies
An exciting opportunity has arisen for three BASW Northern Ireland member positions on the Northern Ireland National Standing Committee (NSC).
We welcome applications from all parts of the profession including social workers in direct practice, specialist fields, managers, academics, practice educators, and those working in diverse settings. We are particularly keen to hear from front line practitioners wherever you are practising.
The committee meets four times a year and this also counts as continual professional development to help maintain your NISCC registration. Meetings are held two in person and two online to maximise attendance. There is an expectation that committee members will be active and involved in the promotion of BASW NI beyond the four committee meetings.
Candidates are initially elected for a period of two years with a maximum stay on committee of six years and travel expenses will be paid.
The coming year will undoubtedly be busy. It will see BASW NI represent the interests of the profession at the re-established NI Assembly and support the implementation of recommendations from the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care. The Association will continue its campaign to address pressures facing Approved Social Workers, call for an uplift in the Student Incentive Scheme and push for the introduction of safe staffing guidance on a statutory footing. We will also be continuing our campaign activity to ensure low-income households are protected from the UK Government welfare reform agenda, calling for the introduction of a NI anti-poverty strategy and action to address the Universal Credit two-child limit.
If you think that you could add to the team that makes a real difference to social work in Northern Ireland, then we want to hear from you. We are looking for members who are passionate about social work, committed to high standards of practice, able to demonstrate leadership skills and interested in shaping and influencing the future work of the BASW Northern Ireland Committee.
Those interested in being involved in the work of the BASW NI Committee are invited to apply by noon on 25th of March. All nominations will be posted on the Northern Ireland home page of the BASW website and electronic voting will open at 9am on Monday 8th of April and close at 12pm on Monday 29th of April 2024.
