BASW Cymru Practice Workshop: Developing Cultural Competence
Join us online to look at what is cultural competence? What is cultural humility? What is cultural safety? In this session, we will be defining and discussing key concepts.
This session is free to BASW Cymru Members and non members may also attend a free taster session.
The session will be led by Dr Wahida Kent from Swansea University. Wahida qualified as a social worker in 1999. Her practice experience has mainly focused on supporting children and families in Wales. In the last 13 years of practice, she worked with disabled children and young people, and children and young people with life-limiting conditions from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups. She has taught Social Work since 2018. Dr Kent’s PhD research, undertaken at Cardiff University, focused on BME Carers of children and young people with life-limiting conditions. She has recently worked as part of a team commissioned by Welsh Government to produce guidance for Social Workers working with Parents with Learning Disabilities going through the process of Public Law Outline.
