Report launched on ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’ activities across the UK

BASW England has launched a report ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’ activities across the UK to mark the 1st anniversary of George Floyd’s murder with a comprehensive list of actions on ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’ that have taken place across the UK (and internationally) over 12 months. 

This Report has been collated and compiled by Wayne Reid (BASW England Professional Officer, Social Worker & Anti-racism Lead Officer).

This report has multiple uses, including:

• Mapping ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’ activities and providing a measure for future activities and strategies across the UK.
• The attachments and hyperlinks throughout provide a wealth of resources for organisational development and professional development.
• Each contribution provides valuable insights into actions which can be replicated in other areas.
• Illustrating what the social work profession is doing to tackle racism and inequality.
• Highlighting organisations and regions which have been more/less active on ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’.
• Enabling professionals and organisations to make links with colleagues in other parts of the UK on areas of mutual interest.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the report.  Unfortunately, we've not been able to capture the full details of every submission.  This is only a snapshot of activities from across the UK due to the limitations of time and resources.

Mapping the ‘Anti-racism in Social Work’ activities from the last 12 months will prove valuable now and in the coming years in terms of accountability, planning future workstreams, promoting collaboration and showcasing the very essence of Social Work values and ethics (which can be replicated).
