BASW Cymru Social Work Manifesto: Senedd Elections 2021

BASW Cymru have published their Manifesto for the Senedd Election 2021.

For social workers to fulfil their potential and make a positive difference to the well-being and flourishing of children, young people and adults, we call on all political parties In Wales to work with BASW Cymru to protect the future of our profession and make a pledge to:

• Undertake an independent review of social work in Wales
• Increase the numbers of social workers entering the profession and close the vacancy gaps
• Increase the number of student bursaries and put them on a par with those offered to student nurses
• Ensure the essential role of social workers in public health is fully integrated into emergency planning at Government and local level
• Reform and invest in social care funding
• Make anti-oppressive, anti-racist and cultural competence education mandatory for all social workers throughout all stages of their careers
• Create the role of a Chief Social Worker for Wales
