Launch of Capabilities Statement and CPD Pathway
BASW England has launched the Capabilities Statement and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Pathway to support social work practice with adults who have learning disabilities.
Available here, this innovative practice focussed framework was co-produced and tested with social workers, people with lived experience, carers, employers and academics.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) commissioned the work to support social workers working with adults with learning disabilities.
The CPD Pathway sits alongside a similar framework for social workers working with older people and will be joined later in the year by a CPD pathway for social workers working with people with autism.
Lyn Romeo, the Chief Social Worker for Adults in England said: “I am very pleased to welcome this additional resource for social workers’ continuing development, representing further commitment to support people with learning disabilities.”
Becky Reynold, professional officer at BASW England, was one of the project’s leads and guest-blogged on the DHSC website for Lyn Romeo. Available here, she highlighted the important of this piece of work and why it is key for the frontline to implement it in their ongoing practice.
