BASW NI is proud to be affiliated with JASW, the Jordanian Association of Social Work.
Jordan has been on journey to professionalise the social work workforce and to introduce social work legislation, regulation of social workers and a common core curriculum.
BASW NI is part of this journey, and it has been a pleasure to see JASW develop and social work move towards professionalisation. Our link has initially been via our National Director, Carolyn Ewart, but has now broadened, with a sub-group of BASW NI’s National Standing Committee now taking this work forward.
The special relationship BASW NI has formed over the past five years with our colleagues in Jordan developed from an informal mentoring scenario into a formal twinning relationship (link here to document.)
In its current phase, the project focuses on supporting the professionalisation agenda in Jordan, enhancing cross-cultural learning, sharing best practice, and promoting professional development within social work. Both BASW NI and JASW are committed to working in partnership to expand our collective reach and influence.
In addition to fostering cross-cultural understanding and fostering collaboration, we also plan to facilitate joint research initiatives to address prevalent social issues in both regions and to establish long-term professional networks and partnerships between the two organizations.
The Project has benefited from financial support from the International Development Fund (IDF) which BASW manages. This has supported a BASW NI delegation to visit Jordan in October 2023 and we plan a reciprocal visit involving JASW members to Northern Ireland in spring 2025.
