BASW has approached candidates across some of the Mayoral elections in England, to seek their views and vision for social work in their respective regions.
On 17th March 2021, following a three week trial, three of five defendants [link to story] were found guilty at Nottingham Crown Court of child sexual exploitation offences. This important verdict was reported in local news, on the BBC and in a statement shared on social media by Nottinghamshire Police. What was missing in the news reports and press releases was the role child protection social workers played in this investigation, and the hard work of one in particular – Sarah Fensom.
The Social Workers Union (SWU) is looking forward to a virtual roundtable on April 23rd with a wide cohort of stakeholders and Parliamentarians to discuss the smacking ban campaign, next steps and how we can work together.
The guide was developed in collaboration with valued stakeholders including Women’s Aid, Galop, Southall Black Sisters, Sign Health, Karma Nirvana, Respect, AVA, Ann Craft Trust, Dr Michaela Rogers at the University of Sheffield, as well as people with lived experience and BASW members.
