Shifting Power – A BASW Mental Health Thematic Group Webinar

David Woodhead, Associate Director of Research at the Centre for Mental Health and Associate Professor in Practice at Durham University, will talk about what anti racism means for social work practice.

His session draws on two recent pieces of work. The first is Shifting Power, a study of population level, anti-racist interventions and their part in reducing inequities in mental health, carried out with Thrive LDN and the Race Equality Foundation. The second is Trauma informed Care and Racialised Communities, produced with Cafe Afrique for the NHS Race and Health Observatory, which looks at how racism shapes the support people receive.

David will set out what the findings mean for assessment, risk decisions and relationships with families. There will be time to think about practice and ask questions.
