Green day for Professional Social Work magazine
Professional Social Work has gone green. In response to feedback from members and reflecting the British Association of Social Workers’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the summer double July/August edition of the magazine is the first to be delivered in 100 per cent biodegradable wrapping.
Made of fully-compostable potato starch, the wrapper can be easily disposed of in household compost bins or put out with green waste for collection.
There are clear instructions on what to do on the wrap, which also complies with European standards on combustibility.
This means it will biodegrade within six months and won’t have any negative effect on the composting process.
BASW, which publishes ten editions of Professional Social Work a year, made the change as part of its bid to help tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time – reducing the impact of climate change.
At its AGM in June, the association passed an emergency motion affirming its commitment to the UN 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Professional Social Work editor Shahid Naqvi said: “We’re really pleased to have been able to respond to the wishes of members and play our part in helping to tackle global warming.
“Our commitment has always been to provide a lively and stimulating read – now it comes with the added benefit of being environmentally friendly too!”
