Appointment of new BASW UK Vice-Chair
Lewis RobertsIt is a privilege and an honour to once again support BASW Council as Vice Chair.
Lewis will commence his two-year term office from June 2024, when we will also sadly say goodbye to our outgoing Vice-Chair, Neeta Baicher, who has served her maximum term of office on BASW Council.
BASW would like to extend our thanks to Neeta for all her hard work, knowledgeable contributions, steadfast commitment, invaluable experience and support she has provided to Council, our membership and the wider organisation over the past two years.
Lewis was appointed to the role uncontested following the second round of nominations for the role of Honorary Officer – Vice-Chair, which closed on the 29th March 2024. His nomination was endorsed by Council.
Commenting on his appointment, Lewis said:
"It is a privilege and an honour to once again support BASW Council as Vice Chair. My previous tenure was during the covid pandemic where we all had to quickly adapt and innovate. Although the pandemic has ended, social workers continue to face challenges.
"As a social worker in children and family services I am well placed to understand these difficulties and advocate and fight for change. I am also well placed to recognise the value of working closely with those whom we support. As Vice Chair I will continue to champion BASW’s commitment to greater inclusivity, equality and celebration of diversity."
Welcoming Lewis to his new role, BASW UK Chair, Julia Ross added:
"We welcome the announcement of Lewis’s appointment as Vice Chair. I am especially looking forward to Lewis’s experience and interest in our workforce and social work terms and conditions, as well as, of course, his passion for working with and alongside children and families.
"Congratulations and we look forward to your contribution and support over the next two years’."
