SUNDAY 1 OCTOBER
NO MORE AUSTERITY | SCRAP THE PAY CAP
FOR DECENT HEALTH, HOMES, JOBS & EDUCATION
BASW believes it is important to support this action now, following the effective Boot Out Austerity walk in April and the General Election campaign and result, which put opposition to austerity very much centre stage.
At the head of BASW’s Manifesto for Social Work is the demand to “End austerity policies that cause harm to children, adults and families with care and support needs”.
“We need to continue the pressure for this call to be heeded and for proper investment in public services to replace these divisive measures that are increasing inequality and exacerbating poverty daily,” says Guy Shennan, BASW Chair.
“We need to do this, because of the harm being caused and that will be caused to present and future users of social work services.”
BASW will be assembling at the Castlefields Arena from 12 noon. Members are advised to look out for the two banners: ‘Social Workers and Service Users Against Austerity’ and ‘Boot Out Austerity’.
Members should meet at the bottom of the steps under the covering, at the end near the bridge.
Full details of the demonstration can be found here, including the location of the Castlefields Arena.
If you have any queries before the day please email pressoffice@basw.co.uk, or if you have an urgent query on the day itself you can call Guy Shennan on 07841 529798.
BASW looks forward to seeing you there!
