BASW musicians needed for World Social Work Month jam!

BASW England is calling for BASW musicians to take part in an informal pre-recorded jamming session, which will be used as part of a webinar for World Social Work Month.

This year’s theme is ‘Ubuntu: I am Because We Are’. Ubuntu originates from the indigenous peoples of South Africa and was popularized across the world by Nelson Mandela. Ubuntu: ‘I am because we are’ is a word, concept and philosophy that resonates with the social work perspective of the interconnectedness of all peoples and their environments. It speaks to the need for global solidarity and also highlights indigenous knowledge and wisdom. We are looking for song suggestions for our jam that fit in with the Ubuntu theme.

To capture community spirit, we hope to demonstrate that even though we are isolated during lockdown, through the power of music, we can unite in musical harmony.

Whether you’re a dab hand on the drums, a violin virtuoso, or you’re savvy on the spoons, there is a space for you to participate in our upcoming jam session, as part of World Social Work Month.

It is a universally acknowledged truth that social work attracts some of the most artistic souls around - yet opportunities to showcase and celebrate talent are few and far between. This is your opportunity to represent the very best of social work creativity!

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been playing for 5 decades or 5 minutes – the only pre-requisites for you to take part are:

 1) A passion for social work

 2) A love for music, and

 3) For participants to be ardent Queen fans (just kidding – although Freddie Mercury impersonators are very welcome)

The pre-recorded session will be shown at our live ‘Connected through Creativity’ event on Tues 16th March: 12-13.00.
