Courage in Social Work
June 10th – 12th, 2015
Welcome to the second joint Nordic Conference for the Social Sector! The conference will take place from 10 to 12 June 2015 at Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki.
The main theme for the conference is Courage in Social Work. The Nordic welfare state model is in crisis, with the economy dictating the pace of change. This must not be allowed to continue if we want to retain our Nordic model and sustainably renew it.
Professionals in the social sector can play a role in determining the kind of society we will live in tomorrow. Making changes demands courage. Where can we find courage? What does courage mean in working life? How can employees support clients on their road to finding courage? How do employees really respond to a courageous client?
The social sector itself must renew itself without prejudice: Professionals must be encouraged to take the initiative and test out new ways of working. That is the only way we can foster growth in the sector.
We invite all social sector professionals, researchers, educators, students and anyone with an interest in the field to engage in dialogue on the current themes in the sector together with their Nordic peers. The conference programme is based on the social sector’s good work practices and on the latest research in the sector.
The conference languages are Finnish, English and Swedish.
