Social workers want to End Austerity Now: National Demonstration, Saturday 20 June 2015
Join BASW in peaceful protest to let the Tory Government know that social workers want to end austerity now – and for the destructive cuts to the NHS, welfare state, education and public services to cease.
BASW UK Chair Guy Shennan wants members to support the demonstration organised by the People’s Assembly Against Austerity, and stand, united together with fellow social work professionals in the Social Workers and Service Users Against Austerity bloc.
He stated: "The national End Austerity Now Demo called by the People’s Assembly Against Austerity is essential at this critical time, with £12 billion welfare cuts on the way, and it is essential that social workers are out there marching in huge numbers. We have to bear witness to the terrible damage that has already been done to the most vulnerable people in our country by the austerity measures of recent years, and to the further damage that will inevitably follow from further austerity. All credit to those responsible for organising the Social Workers and Service Users Against Austerity bloc on the London demo, and BASW supports this action all the way. I look forward to seeing many of you there."

This major national demonstration and festival is poised to be the greatest civil action since the anti-war rallies of 2003. Due to take place on Saturday 20th June, BASW members will assemble with the Social Workers and Service Users Against Austerity bloc in the heart of the City of London right on the doorstep of the banks and their associates in Westminster.
BASW members will stand alongside the Social Work Action Network (SWAN), service users and their fellow social workers within this bloc – united with one voice, to support the People’s Assembly and march to demand an end to austerity now.
