This first-ever health and social care workforce strategy is being developed by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) and Social Care Wales, supported by the Institute of Public Care at Oxford Brookes University.
The consultation is open from 23rd July to midnight Tuesday 17th September 2019.
A series of four webinars to support the consultation are being run on the following dates:
- 2pm & 3pm on Tuesday 23 July
- 10am and 11 on Wednesday 24 July
- 10am and 11 on Friday 26 July
- 10am and 11 on Monday 2 September
The health and workforce strategy follows the publication of a ‘Healthier Wales’ the Welsh Government’s long-term vision for health and social care. This was in response to the Parliamentary Review of Health and Social Care, which published its final report in January 2018.
The ambitions set out in a ‘Healthier Wales’ are for health and social care to work together so that the citizens of Wales receive a ‘seamless’ service irrespective of who’s providing it. The vision and ambitions in a ‘Healthier Wales’ reflect some of the key principles of the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014, most notably – partnership, co-production, voice and control.
This has led Welsh Government to commission SCW and HEIW to develop a long-term workforce strategy in partnership with local government, the NHS and a range of key stakeholders – including BASW Cymru.
