IFSW Global Meeting and Conference, Nairobi, June 2026.
The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) is the world-wide membership body of national social work associations. Every two years, IFSW holds a global meeting convening the IFSW Governing Body followed by a 3-day conference. This year the meeting and conference were in Nairobi, Kenya.
Among other decisions the global meeting elected a new Global President for IFSW – Eva Ponce de Leon (The Philippines) - and welcomed four new national members: Belgium (Wallonia), Benin, Somalia and South Africa.
The Chair of BASW’s International Committee and supporting staff attended this meeting remotely. Under IFSW governance BASW remains a member of IFSW. At this meeting BASW was unable to vote as the cost of the membership fee is being clarified. We look forward to being fully paid up members of IFSW.
BASW funded 15 members through the International Development Fund (IDF) to attend the conference. This was done through an open application process. You can find out about how you might benefit from the IDF here.
Once these members have returned from conference, we plan to share their experiences of this unique event.
