Industrial action in Northern Ireland
BASW Northern Ireland (NI) offers our wholehearted support to colleagues in public sector trade unions who took industrial action in Northern Ireland in relation to pay and staffing issues in December 2019.
As a professional body, not a trade union, our role doesn’t extend to balloting members to strike.
However, we back the call for pay parity and safe staffing conditions. We have an ongoing campaign to improve working conditions for social workers, which has already led to Department of Health action to address violence against social workers.
A full round up of BASW NI's work in 2019 can be found here.

BASW continues to be in contact with the Social Workers’ Union (SWU) and other unions on the strike action developments for Northern Ireland.
