NIASW Practice Development Days
NIASW have delivered a series of Practice Development Days at Queen’s and Ulster Universities during this academic year. This culminated with the final day “Social Work as a Profession” where attendees heard from Marcella Leonard, Independent Practitioner and Chair of NIASW; Colum Conway, CEO of NISCC and Christine Smyth, Deputy Chief Social Services Officer. The panel described their personal experiences of entering social work and the journey they had taken to get to where they are now. All had experience of working internationally and they described what they saw as the current challenges facing social work, along with what they feel is important for social work to be a profession. Finally they gave their own tips for the student social workers present regarding their training and future social work career.
NIASW are delighted to be opening up these practice development opportunities next year to social workers employed in the Statutory and Independent sectors, as well as social work students. We are also delighted that Marcella, Colum and Christine have agreed to deliver this excellent and informative learning opportunity again. Look out for the programme and booking details, which will be published in the near future.
