Refugees welcome here demo 17 September 2016
Date: 17 September 2016
BASW members meeting point: Joy of Life Fountain, Hyde Park
Meeting time: 12.30 - 13.00
#WeStandWithYou
BASW is once again asking its members to stand within the social workers and service users bloc and support the Solidarity with Refugees' march to Parliament Square on Saturday 17 September 2016.
This September, world leaders will meet to discuss the refugee crisis at two crucial summits. This is the biggest opportunity of 2016 to show our Government and the world that the UK is ready to welcome more refugees.
Together let’s call on the Government to do more to support and enable refugees to access the help they desperately need when they reach the UK.
For all people fleeing war, violence and persecution, reaching the UK should mean reaching safety. But the reality is that too often they do not get the long-term support they need to rebuild their lives. Refugees across the country are faced with destitution, homelessness and, as they approach their 18th birthday, the threat of being forced to return to a country where they may be in danger.
So lets join together with Solidarity with Refugees for this important march and show refugees in the UK that we are on their side.
