SASW calls on social work leaders to promote anti-racism work
SASW has written to social work leaders in Scotland to highlight its Anti-Racism Action Plan and inviting them to share what they are doing to promote anti-racism within their organisations.
The recently published action plan is part of SASW's overall commitment to improving Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) for members and sets out a series of actions to promote anti-racism in social work.
It follows on from the deeply harmful impact of racism which was uncovered in SASW's report ‘Racism in Scottish Social Work: a 2021 snapshot’.
SASW strives to work towards ending racism, discrimination and oppression and promoting human rights for social workers at every stage of their careers and for people who use social work services. This plan will help challenge discrimination, drawing on the accounts of those who have experienced racism.
The full action plan is available to read here.
We are currently on the look out for new members to represent Scotland in BASW's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group. If you are interested or would like to find out more information, please contact Sarah McMillan sarah.mcmillan@basw.co.uk
